NMDOT Transportation Study Process

The NMDOT follows a multi-phased approach during the planning stage of transportation project development as follows:

     Phase A – Initial Evaluation of Alternatives (complete)
     Phase B – Detailed Evaluation of Alternatives (complete)
     Phase C – Environmental Documentation (ongoing)
     Phase D – Preliminary Engineering
     Phase 2 – Final Design
     Phase 3 – Construction Services

To date, Phases A and B have been completed and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) has been completed in Phase C of the project.  

Project Implementation

The NMDOT has initiated the process to implement initial proposed improvements to this interchange.  A preferred alternative for the entire project was identified and the upcoming activities will develop the initial construction phases to implement improvements consistent with the preferred alternative.  The preferred alternative is Alternative 16.

Funding Status?

Funds to implement the I-25/Paseo del Norte Interchange project are not available and have not been identified. It is anticipated that the project will be implemented in logical phases as funding sources are identified based on the amount that becomes available.

Funding for the initial improvements is still being sought.  The NMDOT hopes to begin the construction process by mid-year 2013 if funding becomes available.
