The North I-25 Freeway Operations Study was a continuation of the I-25/Paseo del Norte Interchange project in that it evaluated improvements from the recent “Big I” system interchange improvements approximately at the Comanche interchange to the Tramway Road interchange (study area map) and incorporating the improvements identified by the I-25/Paseo del Norte Interchange Study.
The purpose of the North I-25 Freeway Operations Study was to evaluate and recommend improvements to address recurring peak hour congestion and improve travel times throughout the I-25 corridor from north of the Big I to the Tramway Road interchange.
- The study was closely coordinated with the I-25/Paseo del Norte Interchange Study to ensure compatibility between improvement alternatives developed for each study.
- The study took a close look at how access to and from the freeway could be optimized as well as to make better use of the adjacent frontage road system.
- The study identified short-term improvements that could be implemented to address key existing operational deficiencies, and developed the long-term solution for the corridor. Improvements were developed in such a way that they can be implemented in phases rather than one big project.
- The long-term improvements arising from the study represent full build-out of the North I-25 corridor.
The I-25 corridor including frontage roads is expected to serve between 240,000 and 270,000 vehicles per day by Year 2030. |
